Feast of S. Anthony of Padua (or Anthony of Lisbon). St Anthony, a Portuguese Franciscan priest, was well known for his evangelism in Portugal. Following his death in 1231, he was canonised within a year. Today he is better known as the Patron Saint of lost “things”. This is a picture of him, with the Christ Child, above the floor to the Sacristy. Badly damaged by fire in February 1997, this painting was restored by Francis Downing.
