Happy new year! We wish you all every blessing as Happy new year! We wish you all every blessing as we commence the new liturgical year tomorrow. Masses for this first week of Advent are as published and we pray for a faithful and prayerful observation of this wonderful season as we prepare - with expectant joy - for the incarnation. Come and join us at All Saints, you are most welcome.
✨ The St Thomas Window ✨ This stunning window ✨ The St Thomas Window ✨

This stunning window, dating to around 1420, blends history, faith, and intrigue. Found beside the altar of St Thomas the Martyr at All Saints, it honours two Thomases:

✨ Thomas Becket – Archbishop of Canterbury, famously murdered in 1170 for defying King Henry II. His image was likely destroyed during Henry VIII's reign when Becket's legacy was erased from English churches.
✨ St Thomas the Apostle – 'Doubting Thomas', who confessed his faith after seeing Christ's wounds, beautifully depicted in the left light.

But there's a twist! The right-hand figure isn't Becket but St. William of York, moved here after surviving another window's destruction. William, like Becket, was martyred—poisoned at York Minster in 1154.

This window tells a powerful story of devotion, defiance, and faith.

🌟Introducing the Stained Glass Windows of All S 🌟Introducing the Stained Glass Windows of All Saints North Street🌟

Welcome to a new series by our social media volunteer Francesca, where we’ll explore the magnificent stained glass windows of our church. These windows — dating back to c.1330-1440 — are a rare and precious glimpse into medieval art, featuring vibrant colours, unique scenes, and stories of faith meant to inspire.

✨What makes these windows special?✨
All Saints’ windows are one of England’s finest collections of medieval glass, filled with rare details: everyday life scenes, English text, and even the only stained-glass ‘indulgence’ in the country.

Through this series, you’ll learn how these beautiful windows survived centuries of change, disaster, and repair. Stay tuned as we uncover the artistry, resilience, and history in each panel. 🪞✨

We were delighted to unveil this stunning new artw We were delighted to unveil this stunning new artwork in church this morning. The work commemorates our medieval anchoress Dame Emma Raughton, who lived a life of seclusion and prayer in a small cell attached to the church during the 1420s. Emma's visions of the Virgin Mary informed advice she gave to the Earl of Warwick, and thus influenced important national and international events.

The artwork has been created by individuals from @kyrawomen, assisted by local stained glass artist Ann Sotheran, as part of a collaboration between All Saints North Street and @yorklearning. Participants in the project visited All Saints to learn about the anchoress and draw inspiration from our historic building, before working with York Learning and Ann Sotheran to design the artwork and cut and foil the pieces of stained glass from which it is formed. The project was funded by a York Trailblazers Community Grant from @yorkcivictrust_, Make it York, and @heritagefunduk as well as York Learning's Multiply scheme.

We are very grateful to all involved in creating this wonderful artwork, and so very pleased that the story of our anchoress is reaching and inspiring more people. The artwork can be viewed in the church, so please do come and take a look.
